How to snag an image or sound file from a Webpage: The easiest way in Windows Me, Windows 2000 or Windows XP, is to copy the Temporary Internet File Folder into a folder in My Documents. It will turn all the folders inside of it into viewing folders with thumbnails. It might be a good idea to empty the Temporary Internet File Folder first, before you go to the Webpage, you want to snag. You can always File/Save As, but it won't capture the midi or sound file. A lot of people already know this, so the rest is redundant.. To empty the Temporary Internet File Folder, right click on the Blue e on the Desktop, left click [select] Properties-Internet Properties. Click on Delete Files or open Internet Explorer and select Tools/Internet Options/Delete Files. The reason is there are at least 4 folders inside the Temporary Internet File Folder and maybe as many as 20 and may be 3 or 4 hundred megabytes in size. Of couse, you can pilfer through them all and select View-Arrange Icons by Name, Type, Size or Date. To get to the Temporary Internet File Folder, in all versions, right click on My Computer or the Start Button and select Expore. We are in Windows Explorer. The pluses beside all of those folders in the left pane-the All Folders pane, mean there are folders inside. That is how Windows is built- organzing folders within folders into a hierarchical structure. In Windows Me, the path is C:\Windows\Temporary Internet File Folder. In Windows 2000 and Windows XP-I'm trying to do this from memory-I run Win Me [intentionally]. But the path in 2k or XP is C:\Documents and Settings\Logged on User-Your Name\and it is inside one of those folders. Right click on the Temporary Internet File Folder and drag it to My Documents and release and select Copy Here. Don't move it or you can't view files. When you are finished delete the folder and Defragment-It is always a good idea to Defragment any version of Windows at least once a week. That will defragment Virtual Memory or the Swap File and Windows will be much faster. If you are running Windows 98, You need a Desktop.ini file from "My Pictures" folder in Win Me, 2k or XP. You copy it into the Temporary Internet File Folder twice and all folders inside and the open those folders with a paint program or a freeware Program called IrfanView- it is in this midis folder under Picture_Viewer.zip. The Desktop.ini file is in there also. But to see it: with My Documents open, you need to click on Tools/Folder Options/View and select all Show File options and deselect Hide File options. To snag a file from an email in Outlook Express... Most people know this and we assume everyone else does, but no one shared that with me for years, assuming everyone knew it. I didn't. To snag that midi or image file: Click on Forward- Email, like we are going to resend. Then, click on View and select Source Edit, so the Edit Bar at the bottom is visible. Then click on Source in the Edit Bar, so the Source Code is visible. Then click on Format and select Plain Text and then click on File and select Save Attachments as and select a folder to save them in.
